Driving Licence Medical Certificate for Trucks – C, CE

Getting a truck licence or renewing your licence class? For class C (heavy truck) and CE (heavy truck with a heavy trailer), Transportstyrelsen requires a medical certificate – always when you first apply for a provisional licence, and when you renew from age 45.

The truck licence class is renewed every five years. From age 45 you need a new medical certificate at every renewal.

At our clinic in Tranemo everything is done in one visit – vision test and blood pressure check included. The certificate is sent electronically directly to Transportstyrelsen, so you do not need to send anything yourself.

Vision requirements for trucks

You need a visual acuity of at least 0.8 in the better eye and at least 0.1 in the weaker eye. Glasses and contact lenses are allowed – the requirements apply to your corrected vision.

In addition to visual acuity, there are requirements for the visual field. The vision test is done during the visit – bring the prescription for your glasses or lenses.

When is a specialist assessment required?

For certain chronic or more complex conditions, Transportstyrelsen requires the certificate to be issued by a specialist.

This may apply to e.g. vision problems, cardiovascular disease, neurological or psychiatric conditions, diabetes, and substance dependency.
